The story
Business owners in the tourist town of Santa Lucia are adapting to handle cryptocurrencies as payment in a bid to attract more visitors.
Entitled ‘Bitcoin Valley’, the project is targeting 60 businesses to train and help adopt cryptocurrencies as part of their products and services.
Developed by the Blockchain Honduras organisation among others, the project will allow merchants to receive instant payments in their local currency to avoid any fluctuation risks.
Ruben Carbajal Velazquez, professor at the Technological University of Honduras, one of the valley’s development partners, said “Santa Lucia’s community will be educated to use and manage cryptocurrencies, implementing them in different businesses in the region and generating crypto-tourism.”
