Digital payments platform Strike has integrated the Lightning Network with Shopify
Why
The Lightning Network solves Bitcoin’s scaling problem and can help merchants receive bitcoin payments almost instantly
What next
This development raises the question: which e-commerce company will be next?
The story
Digital payment platform Strike has announced that it will integrate the Lightning Network with
e-commerce company Shopify. This will enable Shopify merchants to receive bitcoin payments almost instantly.
“Strike’s integration enables Shopify merchants to diversify their existing payment options and reach untapped global markets and purchasing power,” a press release said.
“[It] also allows Shopify merchants to generate savings through low-cost payment processing. By instantly converting bitcoin payments to dollars, Strike removes certain complexities merchants face in holding bitcoin.”
To integrate the network with Shopify, Strike CEO Jack Mallers said Strike has partnered with NCR (NCR), the world’s largest point-of-sale (POS) supplier, and payments firm Blackhawk.
Mallers has been a vocal proponent for Bitcoin and the Lightning Network, and believes its integration is an extremely powerful tool in shaping the way people use money.
“If we can help make the Bitcoin network more accessible and usable we believe we can change the world,” said Mallers. “There’s not been since 1949 a superior payments network that allows us to innovate… Let’s build the superior payments network from scratch.”
