What is off-book trading?

Off-book trading refers to trades on an exchange platform that are completed separately from the order book. Off-book trades allow for greater flexibility in terms of the prices assets are bought and sold for.

Trades must be later declared by one of the involved parties to bring the trade “on-book”. Exchanges have their own rules on how soon trades must be reported, so it is the responsibility of traders to find this information.
