Bitcoin Payment Protocol and Link Handler

Today we have added two new features to Luno Wallet: support for the new Bitcoin Payment Protocol, and a convenient Bitcoin payment link handler for your browser. Paying online with Bitcoin is now more convenient than ever before.

Try it out here

The Bitcoin Payment Protocol makes it possible to display human-readable identifiers like “The Internet Archive” instead of opaque addresses like “1Archive1n2C579dMsAu3iC6tWzuQJz8dN” when making a payment. This allows for more secure and understandable payments.

The link handler speeds up the payment process by automatically opening Luno Wallet whenever you click a “Pay with Bitcoin” button in your browser. We have made the process as fast as possible: the payment details are pre-populated, and you can sign in and confirm the payment in a single step. This makes paying online with Bitcoin even faster than using your credit card.

There are other link handlers you might already be used to, like the “mailto” handler which allows you to click on an email address and have it open up your mail app.

To get started, visit https://mybitx.com/about/payments.

You can try it out even if you don’t have a Luno account yet (and when you are ready to sign up, you can create a free Luno wallet).
