Developer event: Cape Town Bitcoin Developers Meetup
Bitcoin adoption has always been a chicken-and-egg scenario; the more people use Bitcoin, the more merchants are likely to accept it and vice versa. We believe that one of the best ways to speed up adoption is by encouraging bright people with clever ideas to play with this powerful new technology and come up with innovative new solutions for organically growing an ecosystem based on decentralised value transfer.
It seems the world of traditional banking is due for an overhaul with high transaction costs and large parts of the world still entirely unbanked. This is particularly true in emerging market economies where many people don’t have access to basic financial services like bank accounts, credit cards, savings, investment products and the like, but could open a Bitcoin account at the tap of a button.
At BitX we like to see true innovation in this space and we are supporting the communities in the countries where we operate by providing APIs that make it safe and simple to leverage the power behind Bitcoin. We host events and meetups in different countries and provide mentorship. Our next developer event will be hosted in December in one of our most active markets: Cape Town, South Africa.
South Africa is one of the leaders in cryptocurrency innovation in emerging market countries, having recently hosted the first Bitcoin conference in Africa which attracted a diverse international audience, from experts in the banking industry to regulators to entrepreneurs leveraging blockchain technologies.
We are hosting a meetup exclusively for developers in Cape Town on Thursday, December 3, 2015 to show how simple it is to get up and running on the Bitcoin network and to encourage discussion about what has been done, what is being done now and to dream about what will be possible in the future.
