What is a quote price?

A quote price (or market price) is the current price of an asset. This can be thought of as the point where supply meets demand. It is the level buyers and sellers are willing to trade a given asset for.

If there are more buyers than sellers over a day, the quote price is likely to rise. If there are more sellers than buyers, then the price is likely to fall.

If a trader wanted to quickly check how well Bitcoin was performing, they would likely look at the quote price to get an indication of whether the price had moved within their expected projections or not. This makes quote prices a useful tool for assessing how markets are trading.
